PRESS REVIEWS

Here are the latest Press Reviews that we have recently received:

On October 8th 2006, the South Wales Echo ran a feature article about the considerable number of Eastern European Immigrants who have registered to work in the UK between May 2004 and June 2006. In total, 440,000 came to the UK from the European Union's Accession Eight countries - Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia and the Czech Republic.

They also included an article about how Wally's Delicatessen has responded to that wave of immigration, which may be of interest to you:

In Food News (in the Sunday Express Magazine of October 8th 2006) Wally's was recognised as one of the very few UK stockists of "the deliciously rich buckwheat nectar honey, Gryczany." Priced at just £2.95 for a chunky 390g jar and available from the Polish Food and Drinks department of our Online Shopping Cart. (Product No. 109)

On September 17th, 2006, Wales's largest Sunday newspaper, the Wales on Sunday also ran a story about the increase in demand for Polish and other Eastern European foods, since 8 countries from that area, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia and the Czech Republic, joined the European Union in 2004.

The article is reproduced below:

In the Summer 2006 edition of Ladies First, which is a regional publication for the gentler sex, Wally's Delicatessen was described as "a Cardiff institution" and "purveyors of fine foods from across Europe". I am not sure how some of our longest serving employees feel about spending most of their lives in an institution, but I will ask them and let you know what they say!

Wally's Delicatessen was named 'Deli of the Month' in the November 2005 edition of the BBC Olive Magazine. Below you can see the article which appeared in that esteemed publication.

We were also featured in the October 2005 edition of the Speciality Food Magazine, which ran an article about 'A Day in the Life of' ... myself and Wally's Delicatessen. It was quite a lengthy article (because we are very busy people!) and too large to include here, but we later hope to provide a link to the Online version of the magazine.

For the best dried apricots .... head for Wally's Delicatessen. That's what the Daily Telegraph advised in their Weekend supplement of 1st October 2005. See extract below:

And earlier this year .....

"Wally's Delicatessen - Best Deli in Cardiff. Run by a Polish family for the past 50 years, this gourmet one-stop shop is a genuine gastronomic cornucopia, packed with more than 1,200 products, including 100 different salamis and cold meats alone. Don't miss this."

Olive Magazine - July 2005

"Wallys is a deli heaven that has been a Cardiff institution for decades. Follow your nose down Royal Arcade and feast your eyes on the mouthwatering array of just about every kind of food stuff known to mankind. If it's obscure, random and exotic, it's here."

Ladies First Magazine - June 2005

We are delighted to report that, for the second year running, Wally's Delicatessen has been Highly Commended in The Observer Food Monthly Best Small Retailer of the Year Awards. We were also awarded First Place in the Wales Category, with a commentary as follows:

"This is an impressive shop, with a huge range of stock, from herbs and spices, pulses and health foods to Polish cooked meats, tonnes of salamis and unusual Greek wines."
